css Zen Garden Submission - "blackcomb*75"
This submission to the "css Zen Garden" was inspired by a past redesign of this site. After using the design's photograph taken on the Blackcomb Glacier (Canada) from a ski trip in 2004 on my homepage and masthead, I liked the image so much I wanted to try a page layout that incorporated the entire image and would do it justice.
Obviously, the main challenge here was to find a way to build a usable interface laid out on such a strong backdrop. I knew I wanted to incorporate a scrim of some sort and that I wanted it to have a throwback 1970's/Canadian feel, but until I started sketching out some ideas I didn't have much else worked out. While the end design did go through a few iterations, it actually closely resembles these first sketches.
"blackcomb*75" was submitted in May 2005, and was accepted as an "Official Design" in July 2005. Big thanks to Dave Shea for keeping this project going as long as he has.
